4 things you can do to improve your Creativity

Have you ever felt like creativity just isn’t flowing the way you’d like? Maybe you're facing a blank page, a stagnant project, or a recurring problem in your business and thinking, “Why can’t I come up with something new?” It’s frustrating—especially when deep down, you know that you’re capable of more, but inspiration seems stuck behind some invisible wall.

When we hear the word “creativity,” we often picture someone painting a canvas, composing music, or writing a novel. But the truth is, creativity isn’t just for artists. It’s a vital skill in everyday life—especially for entrepreneurs, freelancers, and anyone navigating a career or building a project. Whether you’re crafting offers, solving problems, or finding ways to generate income, creativity plays a central role.

In fact, if you want more money, more freedom, and more fulfilment in your work… you need creativity. Not just in bursts, but as a way of living and thinking.

Here are four simple yet powerful ways to unblock your creativity and invite fresh ideas—no matter what kind of work you do:

1. Eat for creativity (and mental clarity)

You can’t expect your mind to come up with brilliant ideas if your body is running on low fuel. What you eat directly impacts how you think, feel, and process information. A sluggish body leads to a sluggish brain. Period.

Start by simplifying: reduce processed foods, heavy meals, refined sugars, and anything that makes you feel heavy or foggy. Instead, aim to include more high-vibration foods—fresh fruit, raw or steamed vegetables, healthy fats (like avocado or olive oil), seeds, and good hydration. Magnesium, B vitamins, and omega-3s are particularly important for brain function and emotional balance.

Another key? Variety. Eating different colours, textures, and flavours keeps your body nourished and your senses awake. Just like a varied diet supports your gut and immune system, it also helps prevent mental stagnation. The more variety you have in your food, the more you're stimulating your brain with new inputs—which mirrors the kind of openness and flexibility that fuels creativity. A repetitive, restricted diet often reflects (and reinforces) a repetitive, restricted life. But a rich, colourful plate can spark a richer, more colourful mindset.

If you're experiencing chronic brain fog or low energy despite eating “well,” it might not be just the food. Emotional stress, energy imbalances, and subconscious blocks can also cloud mental clarity. That’s something I regularly help clients with in life & wellness coaching sessions, combining tools like biodecoding, mindfulness, and Bach Flowers to bring you back to centre and unlock your flow.

My ebook Master Stress also goes deeper into the mind-body connection, offering holistic strategies to reduce stress, improve mental clarity, and restore your energy—essentials for keeping creativity alive. If you haven’t checked it out yet, it’s available on my site and on Etsy.

Remember: a nourished body, diverse input, and a calm nervous system are the foundations of a creative, intuitive mind.

2. Ditch judgment and perfectionism

You might be having great ideas all the time… but if you’re constantly judging them or discarding them for not being “good enough,” they never get a chance to bloom.

Perfectionism is one of the biggest creativity killers—especially among thoughtful, intuitive people (and yes, that’s probably you). If you wait for the perfect idea, the perfect time, or the perfect format, guess what? You’ll wait forever. Creativity doesn't thrive in rigidity. It needs a bit of chaos, a bit of play, and a lot of freedom.

Here’s the trick: let ideas be messy. Let them be incomplete. Let them come out in drafts and scribbles and brain dumps. You’re not supposed to evaluate them in the moment—just capture them.

This is especially true for anyone building a project or business. When you’re brainstorming offers, writing content, or trying to find new ways to make money, don’t fall into the trap of trying to sound impressive or get it “right” on the first go. You’re better off being real, raw, and slightly chaotic—then shaping things later.

If you often find yourself paralysed by perfectionism or unable to move forward in your ideas, it’s a sign of deeper patterns. These might come from childhood messages, family expectations, or transgenerational beliefs around self-worth and achievement. I’ve seen incredible results when we decode those stories from the root.

One gentle way to start shifting this? Bach Flower remedies. Crab Apple is fantastic if you're constantly criticising yourself or your ideas. Larch helps when you don’t believe in your creative capacity. These can be personalised for your situation in a session with me—just ask.

3. Relax (yes, really)

We live in a culture that glorifies “doing”—but when it comes to creativity, being is just as important. If your nervous system is overloaded, your mind is too busy scanning for danger to allow creative flow.

Have you ever noticed how your best ideas come when you’re in the shower, on a walk, or lying in bed? That’s no coincidence. When we relax, we enter alpha brainwave states—the gateway to intuition, imagination, and original thinking.

So what’s the solution? Build more pockets of quiet into your day. This might look like:

  • A 10-minute walk without your phone

  • Sitting with a cup of tea and no agenda

  • A short breathing practice or body scan

  • Gentle yoga or stretching

  • Listening to instrumental music while daydreaming

As simple as it sounds, many people forget that their best strategy sessions often happen away from the desk. Creative flow doesn’t respond to pressure. It responds to space.

My Master Stress book includes a full section on how to unwind your nervous system using holistic tools—from Bach Flowers to somatic awareness—and how that naturally enhances your ability to be creative, present, and clear-minded again.

And if you feel like you need individual support to reset mentally and emotionally, my life & wellness coaching sessions are ideal for restoring balance, especially when creativity has been hijacked by stress or burnout.

4. Play and have fun

Play is not a luxury. It’s a necessity.

When we play, we stop judging. We stop strategising. We enter the present moment—and that’s where creativity lives. Playfulness allows us to see new angles, come up with weird solutions, and access our imagination without fear of failure.

Even as adults, we need to actively create space for “non-productive” fun. This can be anything from dancing around the kitchen, to trying a new hobby, to spending time with people who make you laugh and feel light. Don’t underestimate how this impacts your work. The most successful people I know are also the ones who know how to enjoy their lives.

And if you need a gentle nudge to reconnect with joy and ease, my Self-Care Oracle Deck can help. Each card offers a small ritual or reflection to bring you back into alignment with your energy and remind you that self-kindness is essential—not optional. Pull a card, follow the prompt, and let yourself loosen up. Inspiration often follows.

How creativity fuels your business, income, and purpose

Let’s tie it all together.

Creativity isn’t just nice to have—it’s a key to unlocking abundance in your work and your life. Whether you’re a business owner, freelancer, or developing a passion project on the side, creative thinking allows you to:

  • Solve problems in ways others don’t see

  • Pivot with ease when things don’t go to plan

  • Create offerings that reflect your unique gifts

  • Communicate clearly and authentically

  • See opportunities others miss

If your income has plateaued, your work feels dull, or your energy is flat, don’t just focus on strategy. Look at your creative flow. Are you making space for it? Are you enjoying what you do? Are you letting yourself be seen and expressed?

Often, the path to more money and purpose is not about doing more—it’s about coming back to yourself, managing stress differently, and allowing your unique perspective to shine.
